Standing in the midst of lush hilltops, on a ridge facing over valleys and the city of Bandung, Padma Boutique Hotel is a new, fresh transformation from the legendary Chedi Hotel. Maintaining the exquisite tropical approach from the existing composition of Kerry Hill (ca 1992-94), the construction expands the mass to another 3.95ha of beautiful hillside that offers daily breathtaking view.
The expansion facilitates the provision of another 72 hotel rooms, which summed up to a total of 123 rooms that includes deluxe rooms, hillside studio, and suites. A whole new concept of an open restaurant is also introduced in the new building while another mini ballroom is prepared to hold formal and business events. The exterior, on the other hand, offers a breadth of options for the outdoors, from pool deck extension complete with kids’ pool, east wing extension for new spa, sauna, and a wedding hall with outdoor decks. Fully furnished facilities ranging from fitness center to steam baths are also offered as amenities. The west wing extension is utilized for parking area, new executive/administration office and BOH, beside the upgrading of existing main lobby, reception counter, and business club interior design.
For this expansion of Padma Boutique Hotel, Enviro Tec derived its architectural language from the well-known Bandung art deco style present in the existing building, while experimenting on the folding plate, overhanging mass and topographical shape. The interior renovation was in itself a challenge for Enviro Tec, as the integrity of its previous legacy wih the new identity must be kept and preserved. To ensure the harmony with its surrounding nature, the building only incorporates simple materials and construction systems, which resulting also in a seamless blend between the former and latter identities without oppressing one over another. In fact, the two continously identify and enhance each other’s place in time and history.
This project serves as a platform for Enviro Tec to explore our respect and adaptability without losing and imposing our creativity to the existing building, and sustaining a legendary building in the making process of its new, exciting chronicle.
